About the Role

We’re looking for a smart, driven and curious engineering student to join our Tech team in Auckland over the summer. This is an exciting opportunity for a high-achieving Software Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering or Engineering Science student to gain hands-on experience in software development - including working on a cutting-edge R&D project - within a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

You’ll be supported by experienced engineers, get exposure to the full software development lifecycle - from ideation and development through to testing and deployment - and learn modern technologies and best practices alongside people who are excited to share what they know.

What You’ll Do

• Work alongside experienced engineers to build and improve the M2X logistics platform
• Contribute to a cutting-edge R&D project that explores new ways to solve real customer problems
• Participate in code reviews and team practices - stand-ups, design discussions, retrospectives
• Help design, implement, test and debug software components
• Work with modern cloud-native technologies and AI-driven tools
• Take ownership of meaningful pieces of work end-to-end

What We’re Looking For

• Currently studying towards a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering Science or a related field, ideally in your penultimate year of study
• Strong academic performance - typically a GPA / grade average that places you near the top of your cohort
• Some programming experience through coursework, personal projects or past internships (TypeScript, Python, Java, or similar)
• Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and solving problems
• Sharp analytical and problem-solving instincts, paired with good communication and a collaborative mindset
• An interest and curiosity about AI - backed by evidence you’ve experimented with it, whether through coursework, side projects, work, or AI tools you use day-to-day
• Interest in transport, logistics, or building software with real-world applications

Nice to Have

• Internship or personal project experience using cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure)
• Exposure to web development frameworks (e.g. React, Vue, or Angular)
• Familiarity with Git, version control, and collaborative software workflows
